Everything You Need to Know About the 5-10 Rule

Greetings warriors! As many of you are probably already aware, on Sunday, July 6th, a gathering occurred at Howling Wind Pack’s chat (xat.com/HowlingWindRoguePackTT) at 6:30 PM. The gathering was scheduled to discuss a pressing issue in the Toontown Warriors community: districts and clans. Those who have played Toontown Rewritten already may be aware of the lack of available districts. While Toontown had 30 different districts for clans to choose from, Toontown Rewritten has a default of 8 districts (more are added when districts begin to fill up). Now, of course, this decrease in districts is going to cause serious problems in the claiming of territories for Clans in Toontown Rewritten. Additionally, the current system of disappearing and reappearing districts because of population size is another worrisome factor.

The solution proposed? The 5-10 rule.

The 5-10 rule aims to reduce the number of clans down to five to ten main clans. Larger clans, such as RiverClan, ShadowClan, or Howling Wind Pack, to name a few, would stay in place, while smaller clans, such as SnowyClan, would merge with other small clans or larger clans to keep order. In this way, explained the leaders of the gathering, fights over districts would be decreased. In addition, they offer, this retains large, active clans rather than small, more inactive clans. Brookflow, a supporter of the 5-10 rule and leader of Howling Wind Pack, had this to say on the matter: “Well, I think we should have less clans because one, there’s not enough room on Toontown, and two, when we did have Toontown, there [were] so many clans. I don’t see a reason to have like twenty clans/packs going on at once. I mean, sure there’s gonna have to be more than four because our community is huge, but we don’t need twenty. There’s not enough people to go around.”

However, not everyone at the gathering agreed with this decision. After a unanimous vote for the 5-10 rule originally, questions were raised by those who hadn’t yet heard full details of the plan, which began the debate. How would it be possible to get everyone to obey the rule? Wouldn’t the rule cause drama and fighting rather than prevent it? And what about smaller clans? All of these were a few of the questions raised on the 5-10 rule by those attending the gathering.

On arguing the first case, objectors to the 5-10 rule noted that it would be impossible to force everyone in the Toontown Warriors community to follow something so dramatically different from clan function on Toontown. One owner noted, however, that those who simply chose to not follow the rule would have to suffer the consequences of their decision. This logic then led to the next point brought up: excessive drama and fighting caused by the new rule rather than ending it.

Those against the 5-10 rule also say that because of the increased size of the main clans left by the rule more fighting and drama will break out internally. Some said that more incompetent warriors would be found in the clans, or that newer warriors would feel more left out in such large clans. “The thing is, even tho[ugh] I really don’t use history a lot to prove my point,” said Moonspirit, deputy of RiverClan, on the matter, “the Roman Empire was very big and very strong. It was also very powerful, but it fell because it became way too big and powerful.”

A solid decision was not met during the gathering Sunday evening. After a long, even heated at points, debate, it was generally agreed upon that no action could be taken until Toontown Rewritten was entirely publicly open and the number of available districts could be discerned. An additional point discussed during the gathering involved the treatment of “gag toons,” or toons who mainly complete Toontasks rather than mainly role play, the decision reached on which involved a unanimous decision to leave them alone. A consensus was also reached on the topic of gatherings, which it was agreed on that gatherings from this point on be held more similarly to the books in which certain members of a clan are selected to go along with the mandatory medicine cat, deputy, and leader.

It seems that only an open release of Toontown Rewritten and further gatherings will be able to make way for further discussion on the 5-10 rule and other pressing issues in the Toontown Warriors community. Yet, because of the restrictive nature of the rule and the dramatic changes it will bring to the community, many question if a decision will ever be met.
